Circular economy practices focus on recovering value from resources that might otherwise be discarded. These approaches can improve material efficiency while reducing the energy required for extraction, production and disposal.

Resource recovery therefore has a role beyond environmental management. It can contribute to economic resilience and support a broader approach to energy security.

A More Comprehensive Energy Strategy

India’s future energy system will require multiple solutions working together. Renewable energy, bioenergy, efficient technologies, resource recovery and responsible import diversification can each contribute to a more resilient energy future.

The country’s long term objective should not be limited to securing fuel from a greater number of international suppliers. It should also include reducing unnecessary energy demand and unlocking the value of resources already available within the domestic economy.

Building this system will require policy continuity, investment, infrastructure development and cooperation between government, industry and local communities.
